孟子休妻

戰國時期的思想家、政治家和教育家孟子，是繼孔子之后儒家學派的主要代表人物，被后世尊奉為僅次于孔子的“亞圣”。

孟子一生的成就，與他的母親從小對他的教育是分不開的。孟母是一位集慈愛、嚴格、智慧于一身的偉大的母親，早在孟子幼年時候，便位后人留下了“孟母三遷”、“孟母斷織”等富有深刻教育意義的故事。孟子成年娶妻后，孟母仍不斷利用處理家庭生活的瑣事等去啟發、教育他，幫助他從各方面進一步完善人格。

有一次，孟子的妻子在房間里休息，因為是獨自一個人，便無所顧忌地將兩腿叉開坐著。這時，孟子推門進來，一看見妻子這樣坐著，非常生氣。

原來，古人稱這種雙腿向前叉開坐為箕踞，箕踞向人是非常不禮貌的。孟子一聲不吭就走出去，看到孟母，便說:“我要把妻子休回娘家去?！泵夏竼査?“這是為什么?”孟子說:“她既不懂禮貌，又沒有儀態?！泵夏赣謫?“因為什么而認為她沒禮貌呢?”，“她雙腿叉開坐著，箕踞向人，”孟子回道:“所以要休她?！薄澳悄阌质侨绾沃赖哪?”孟母問。

孟子便把剛才的一幕說給孟母聽，孟母聽完后說:“那么沒禮貌的人應該是你，而不是你妻子。難道你忘了《禮記》上是怎么教人的?進屋前，要先問一下里面是誰;上廳堂時，要高聲說話;為避免看見別人的隱私，進房后，眼睛應向下看。你想想，臥室是休息的地方，你不出聲、不低頭就闖了進去，已經先失了禮，怎么能責備別人沒禮貌呢?沒禮貌的人是你自己呀!”

一席話說得孟子心服口服，再也沒提什么休妻子回娘家的話了。

Mencius to divorce his wife

Mencius, a thinker, statesman and educator in the warring states period, was the main representative of the Confucian school after Confucius and was honored as the "sub-saint" only second to Confucius.

Mencius' achievement in life was inseparable from his mother's education. Mencius' mother was a great mother who was full of love, strictness and wisdom.
